The project..

Adam bought a 2006 Ford E250 cargo van, and now he's transforming it into a camper van (self-made Sportsmobile) for himself, Liz and the dogs (and maybe the cat). Liz is photodocumenting the project here, start to finish!

My zucchini bread was an utter failure. :(

Well, the rest of the plywood floor is now in. Adam isn't totally happy with it because it's not completely flat (each board is fairly flat, but each board seems to be at a very slightly different angle. He may replace the plywood (1/2") with thicker (3/4") plywood to see if that solves the problem (the wavy nature of the van floor with the other layers underneath may be making the more pliable 1/2" boards warp, this problem could be fixed with thicker wood). The unevenness could become an issue when we start adding cabinets and the gaucho bed, as they would not sit flat on the floor.

Hmmmm......

Tonight, he's building a temporary platform for a queen size bed. This will be our sleeping spot and the dog's roosting spot until we choose and install the gaucho bed "dowstairs"and also have the pop-top with bed installed on top. He also put one layer of foil insulation on part of the walls. This gives us a good idea of the size of the space once we have the walls all covered and finished off.
Pre-drilling holes!
The bed platform frame!

Check out the foil insulation on the walls.

In other news, here are some current shots of our menagerie.
This is Dude, our border collie-aussie mix.
This is Carex, our german-shepherd mix.
This is Bruce, our kitten. He just got a stylish new collar!
Also, while Adam was out working on the van, I made dinner (fritatta), did laundry, cleaned all of the house except the bathrooms, burned three of my fingers (on the fritatta pan), took photos for this blog post, played with the dogs, and attempted to make a loaf of zucchini bread (which I am usually quite good at) which complete failed. Here is a photo of the inedible bread. Believe me, looks are deceiving. (It's nice and brown on the outside, completely raw on the inside, even though I cooked it for an hour and 25 minutes......).

Tonight's harvest: 1 zuc, 1 jalepeno, 1 green bean, and a TON of basil. (Note: the zuc was sadly lost to the bread I attempted to make tonight.)

  1. This looks like a lot of work but I know Adam is enjoying himself. Hope he got a beer break sometime during all this activity. Bruce has grown so much! Have fun today with your first adventure in the van. Love, mom
